Soft suitcase or hard suitcase?

With summer just around the corner, we're already thinking about our next travel adventure. And it's when we're about to embark on a trip that certain doubts often arise, such as whether it's better to choose a hard suitcase or a soft suitcase. The truth is that there is no one better than the other, but the answer will depend largely on several factors such as the means of transport in which we travel or the use we are going to give to our suitcase.

Today we reveal the pros and cons of these two types of suitcases. Here we go!

When to choose a soft suitcase?

Although they can be used in most modes of transport, soft or semi-rigid suitcases are recommended for car journeys or even as hand luggage. The truth is that these types of suitcases are not recommended for air travel because the impacts when boarding or checking in can lead to breakage or damage to our luggage.

However, these suitcases tend to have more usable volume. They are lighter and more versatile due to their external pockets that allow for easy storage and retrieval of items and documents. In addition, many of them incorporate expandable pockets that allow us to better organise our luggage internally. It should be noted that these models are more adaptable and are ideal for carrying clothes.

In terms of price, soft suitcases used to be somewhat cheaper, although nowadays the difference is hardly a determining factor as the prices between the two models are practically on a par.

In SusMaletas we propose two soft suitcases that meet the main features to travel in total comfort. We speak of the Roncato Sirio and Samsonite Ecodiver

When to choose a hard suitcase?

Although at first glance it seems obvious that hard suitcases are somewhat heavier, more and more brands are trying to merge strength and lightness in their materials. One example is Samsonite, which has launched several collections made of polycarbonate or curv, the latest technology in the lightest hard suitcases on the market.

However, the advantage of hard suitcases is indisputable if we usually travel by plane as their resistance will make our luggage more protected against tears and impacts. And consequently, greater durability.

Hard suitcases also stand out for their easy cleaning and waterproofing, a fact to take into account if we travel to a country with unstable weather. It should also be noted that these suitcases are ideal if you are transporting fragile and delicate objects.

In terms of hard suitcases, we suggest the American Tourister Soundbox or the Samsonite Magnum Eco.
